It was a bittersweet moment when, on 12 February 2017, the Helderberg College Sports field inauguration ceremony took place. The long awaited day, of a close to twelve month project, had finally come. Students, staff and guests would stepped onto the field in appreciation of the upgrades done.
The College President, Dr Vincent Injety, heart-warmingly welcomed all, and also provided some background on the various project phases, leading up to the final completion.
“The once waterlogged, uneven and unattractive field is now something to be truly proud of,” stated Dr Injety.
Donor and guest of honour, Dr Patrick Jones delivered a powerful speech, filled with gratitude, memories, and wise words to current students. He closed the presentation drawing from Exodus 4, encouraging us to be like Moses. He encouraged students and staff to cast what is in our hands, whether it is talent, ideas and skills, for God’s glory. “For little is much when put in God’s hands,” encouraged Dr Jones.
The field was officially opened with the signing of the official soccer ball, and the release of balloons in the official Helderberg College colours. This was a heart-warming moment, followed with a lot of action packed soccer matches between the Old Timers, current Helderberg College team and guest teams such as Eerste River SDA and Mfuleni SDA soccer teams.
The College would like to extend its gratitude to all who came out to celebrate this long-awaited event. Without the support of all teams and guests the event would not have been as beautiful and memorable as it was.
